A Saint’s Life Apologetic

I just finished the second session of a study of Christian apologetics being offered by our church. I love the way I’m being challenged to understand the rational basis of my faith and taught the way to share it with others. The Biblical instruction for faith sharing is set forth in 1 Peter 3:15-16:

But in your hearts set apart Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect….

Our lives should reflect the character of Christ and be of such a quality that people will inquire about our faith.  It is the lives we live that open the door for sharing the gospel. That appears to be the approach taken by Drew Brees, the New Orleans Saint’s Super Bowl winning Quarterback.  Here is an excerpt from his book Coming Back Stronger:

“Being a Christian is who I am. I read the Word of God in the Bible every day, and I do my best to live out the teachings found inside. On a daily basis I ask God to show me His will and allow me to see the purposes He has for my life…Our faith is a constant work in progress, and the journey of a Christian is never finished on this earth. We always need to be working toward strengthening our bond with the Lord and improving our relationships with others. ..I want people to take Christ seriously, so I try not to treat him flippantly by throwing around some catchphrase or code words that only Christians will understand…The challenge of a Christian athlete is to live the life that we preach and understand that we have been given a platform to make a positive impact in the lives of many people, especially kids.”
